I was shocked to see a photograph of me on this article. The photographer had this posted on her personal page and the photo gives her no credit. She was stoked to have her work chosen, but was upset with the circumstances. I read and enjoy Autostraddle regularly, and I just want to make sure credit is given where credit is due. My ex gave me a little panorama photo with “in this state of/ in-between-ness/ we are always touching” written on it. I drew each letter on paper and stuck them to my bedside table, with the photo underneath, so I’d see them every morning when I woke up. I broke up with her three months ago and I still haven’t got round to taking them down. Clinging onto things might not help, but it feels like it does.

i think it’s important to make a distinction between heartache and a medical condition like depression. i understand what you’re saying, though. i’m more of a “drown in feelings and pizza” person.

I can’t agree with the premise of the article that “Heartbreak inevitably leads us to a choice: walk into the pain or run away. Drugs—even the little lightweight ones like Tylenol—are attempts to float above it.” Telling legitimately depressed people that they just need to “get through it” is disrespectful, ignorant, and dangerous.

That awful moment when you’re reading an article and realise you’re probably gonna cry in a few seconds so you force yourself not to click the links and you say “I will read about this when I’m okay again” and bookmark it and go back to writing terribly self-indulgent poetry.

i only have the extra copy of the ‘zombie survival guide’ and ‘the road’ that she gave me. we were going to survive zombies together and now, well we live in brooklyn and we’d probably die separately. i deleted all the pictures, even the one with the two of us on a couch with two other girls in flannels before we went to a strip club, the one where we were holding hands and smiling so unabashedly. four girls in flannel, my mom once asked if we were all girls in the picture.
i wonder sometimes if she kept anything i gave her but i don’t think too long on it.
