I'm a little late to The L Word party, but I just finished this episode (which I'm assuming is the end of the series cause I see that there's another one but the description I've read makes it sound like one of those cheesy memory things where it's like looking back at baby photos of the TV show..nvm) Anyway, I've loved reading the recaps. They're hilarious. After a while, I could without a doubt guess when there'd be something funny in the recap about a moment in the show. Also, kudos on the Our Town reference. Theatre references steal my heart. <3 Heyy. Not only visibility but the fact that lesbians are nor all running around in lumberjack tops and birkenstocks, frequenting writing workshops and working for social services...there are lesbians leading ordinary lives, wanting to create a family (of a different kind but not so out of ordinary), living in houses they own and earned thier money for and want to look lovely. Women full of ideas, prepare to create, to lead and to be successful.The l word managed to break the stereotype of lesbians being losers, murderers and being easily replaced by men in a lasting relationship. THIS I THANK YOU FOR!What I do not thank you for though is a series full of unfinished story lines and mixed up messages. Ilene - considering you have built a team of women to bring this revolutionary series to life, it would have been nice to have a series that is as near to perfect as it could have been. Unbreakable story lines, perfect locations etc., you had fully committed actresses, everyone of them made at least one public pledge to the cause of lesbian and gay equllity, you had audience who was willing to support you all the way, WTF WENT WRONG..I am sorry about this little rant, I will miss the L Word. Not always the pefrect tool, never the less the only tool we were given so far.Ultimately there is no way back now. Lesbians are out there now, hopefully show will come along (or follow up) that will mend the errors of The L Word. The biggest reason I watch the show is for Shane and her story ends with absolutely no growth. I mean, sleeping with Nikki AGAIN in season 6? WTF? I work on a television show myself, managing a group of writers, and that just screams of "uh, we've run out of ideas so let's just crash two characters together because they're hot and for no other good reason". Did IFC not read the hundreds and hundreds of posts asking for Sharmen to be brought back to life briefly for the final season? I am so disappointed... I am really going to miss your recaps.I have loved this show and am grateful for its contribution to the larger social/political landscape. And grateful that it has impacted so many people(including me) in a wonderful way.Having said that, I, like you and many others, have really struggled with this murder plot because of its total unbelievability. And because it felt so contrived. It's puzzling because it was so unnecessary, and made no sense. In my view, NONE of these characters were capable of killing Jenny. There wasn't a plausible motive for any of them. As you said, the logical response to Jenny's nuttiness would have been to freeze her out of the circle of friends. Murder is "out of character" for any of our beloved women. And because of that, it felt like an undoing of all their personalities. It appeared as if the cast didn't believe in the plot either...it felt like they were forcing themselves to say their lines.If this was just a manipulation to keep the door open for a movie, or to feed into the women's prison series, it wasn't effective. There are so many different ways that could have kept the doors open.Honestly, what it felt like to me is that no one was really at the helm of Season 6. It's like IC and all the rest of the writers left to go to the Bahamas for a well derserved break, and before they left, they pulled in a couple of people from the street and asked them to write Season 6.Having said all this, I still remain grateful for all the show has done. And I totally agree with your tribute to Jennifer Beals. She consistently acted with integrity and did her best to make her character, and the show, believable. She really is one classy lady!
