The Comment Awards Want To Know Where Babies Come From

Good day, summer raindrops! Another queerific week has passed and we all had plenty to say about it.

Season 2 might not debut until next year but we still have Orange Is The New Black on our minds. Did you hear that Laverne Cox likes us? (She really likes us!). Also, Riese wrote an amazing thing about how the memoir and show compare to each other and real life.

Kristen Ford, of Kristen Ford Band, makes great music and used to work in a vegan hot dog factory. That’s right. Crystal interviewed her this week. Then Rachel fell down the Tumblr rabbit hole known as The Bechdel Files. And have you guys met Sara yet? She’s enlisting in the army and going to tell us all about it.

But wait, there’s more! Lizz recapped Pretty Little Liars 408, Cara’s taught us about gendered pronouns and Vanessa continued her quest to meet every last ‘straddler on the planet.

  1. Considering how incestuous queer communities can be sometimes I wouldn’t be surprised to find that everyone was sharing the same 10 exes around.

  2. I feel so nerdy and excited! :)

This just made my day! Also, I met someone who wrote some columns here a year ago at my volunteering orientation for LGBT youth and I was like, hey! I recognize you! And we had a moment of me being a total fangirl.

  3. I have just read Heather’s comment and I wish it had gotten an award too. I have always thought that insightful comments that add to the discussion should be here. Don’t know why only funny/humorous comments are elegible for awards…

    • Hi Carmen!

We try to avoid giving more than one award to a commenter in a given week which is why Heather didn’t get two — although both comments were definitely worthy. Although we don’t prioritize clever or funny comments over more serious ones, but they tend to be the what people forward to me for awards. I’ll keep your thoughts in mind going forward and would also like to encourage everyone to send any comment award-worthy posts to me directly at: carrie [at] autostraddle [dot] com

      Thanks!

  4. The fact that there has now been an Eid Mubarak comment award on Autostraddle makes me feel so affirmed and included. :) I’m a real queer just like all the other ones and it’s okay that I’m ~*~ethnic~*~ and it doesn’t make me any less a part of this community! Yippee!

    • We need more people like you around to understand things like my comeback to Miriam, which I am so sore about not having been included in that screenshot.
