Ooh, I was only thinking about how good 4 Minutes is a couple of days ago, in a wildly different context of how they work in the piano teacher’s lesbianism to flesh out her character rather than say “wowzers, here’s a dyke!”

Anyway, the use of music throughout it was phenomenal (I guess it had to be to make the film work at all) and the sequence at the end was another-word-like-phenomenal-but-it’s-too-early-for-me-to-think-of-one.

Personally I LOVE angry chicks with pianos. Passionate AND talented, I mean, c’mon! (as long as they’re not angry at me, that is…).

…and I know she’s an actress rather than a musician (she learned to play for the part and I’m a little obsessed), but Hannah Herzsprung tearing through the last 4 minutes in Vier Minuten (2006) and literally leaving blood on the keys…OMG.

Thank you for introducing me to Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers. I love that harmonium she’s playing (the little squeeze-box/accordion instrument) – it makes the whole sound so unique. Shiny.

One last thing, I’m also really glad you shared Cruel Black Dove. I’d never heard of them before and I really liked their sound, but they’re sneaky/tricky and they got my hopes up (grrr). The cute lead singer Anastasia Dimou plays drums for a minute in the music video and I was like “Yay! Drummer Grrrl!” and then no – she goes back to singing and the guy goes back on drums…my trust, betrayed. *sigh*

I love drummers. Got a taste for it in HS (snare in marching band). So it goes. Play on, play on.

i fucking LOVED the runaways!!! it’s very dark and pretty grim and obviously a total work of fiction but i loved the music and the acting and oh god oh god if i can’t BE joan jett i’ll settle for staring at kristen stewart as joan jett for all eternity.

Every time you do a cartoon recap I get really excited, and this was no exception. It’s okay one time i went to sxsw and only saw one band the whole time as I’ve mentioned 3-10 times. Did you like The Runaways?
