Style Thief Paper Dolls: You Didn’t Know You Needed This Until Now

You may have noticed some hot new artwork around the site. Maybe you loved the awesome graphics in our Oh Gay Cupid series or the sweet new banners in the regular columns.

It’s all the work of dreamboat artist Rory Midhani. In addition to being everyone’s ultimate fantasy, Rory has upped the ante once more and will now be producing paper dolls exclusively for Autostraddle in conjunction with my column Style Thief. That’s right, for every style icon we strip down, you can dress them back up!

To get you started, Rory has created paper dolls for three of our most popular Style Thief subjects, Janelle Monae, Kiyomi McCloskey and Carrie Brownstein. I want to be very clear that these are literally the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to cut them out, dress them up and act out what might happen if Carrie Brownstein ever met Kiyomi McCloskey. Or maybe I’ll just have them framed.

  1. 1. these are PERFECT

    2. i’m going to print them out and cut them out and glue them onto cardstock then gift the set to my friend for her birthday

    3. i love when riese’s mom comments

  2. I’ve somehow managed to turn the 4 year old into a Carrie Brownstein super fangirl, so she’s gonna flip when she sees these. I should probably just give up on my dream of having a room in my house without paper doll clothes all over it.

  3. That Carrie Brownstein doll is awesome! But one thing would make it even better… If you put a bird on it!

  4. i can only hope playing with these gives you as much delight as drawing them did for me. ENJOY!

  5. AMAZING.

wait carrie brownstein doesn’t have a single visible tattoo? how did i not know this. why do i feel like i should’ve known this.

    • Visible, no. Though she did at one point have 27 tattooed on the back of her right arm, she must have since had it removed. And I believe she mentioned in an interview that she has “Dig Me Out” emblazoned across her rib cage as homage to her years in Sleater-Kinney. Also, she sports an amazing tat of her late cat Hector on her abdomen, which you can kinda see here: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lu8zl7pfT61qiw6qto1_1280.png

I, of course, have accrued above information through an extensive, totally real, not fake relationship with Ms. Brownstein. Er. In my imagination, that is.

  6. Now what would be even more awesome – not that this isn’t already – is if there was an online version of this that allowed you to swap looks across dolls. ;)

  7. I used to looooove paper dolls when I was a baby, and then I discovered jojo’s fashion show and haven’t looked back since. Scared I might turn into a pillar of salt or something…

  8. Autostraddle should make these paper dolls into fridge magnets and then sell them in the store, with part of the profit going to the artist and part going to the autostraddle website.

They would make great little gifts. :)
