Before you punch the wall in or scream yourself hoarse, here are some furious songs for a more productive way to release your rage!

  1. Incubus – Make Yourself…the message in this song and the lyrics are just so great and it definitely got me through some stuff in college. I think I always had an Incubus album going in my car during this period of my life.

The Blood Brothers are also good because they are these tiny little guys and they scream and their lyrics are ridiculous and its kind of hilarious.

  2. My favorite angry music is Hole. ‘Pretty on the Inside’ and ‘Live Through This’ allowed me to survive freshman year of college.

  3. “Cream and Bastards Rise” by Harvey Danger is, like, the most awesomely bitter song ever (“you do everything that people said to/ you know your friend? he’s doing so much better than you”) and I love it to pieces.

It helps that he sounds like he’s thiiiiis close to telling you to go out and murder everyone.

  4. These are some of my go to songs:

    Against Me – Thrash Unreal
    The Dodos – Don’t Stop
Everclear – Now That It’s Over
    Korn – Twisted Transistor
    Matt & Kim – Cutdown
Nine Inch Nails – The Hand that Feeds
    Sleater-Kinney – Night Light
    Tool – Parabola
    Yellowcard – Paper Walls

    • this.
I’d just add some rise against and maybe some atari teenage riot…

oh and always some german stuff….it could be about love, rainbows and worldpeace and would still sound angry;)
(me being german makes it probs ok to say that.jk I love my mothertongue)

  5. Bayside-They’re not horses they’re unicorns
Brand New-Jude Law and A Semester Abroad
    Brand New-Luca
(Sorry, I’m a sucker for Brand New)

  6. My favorite is Plague by Slipknot

    Others…
I Dont Care – Apocalyptica ft. Adam Gontier
    Fade – Staind
I’m A Sucker For Fakes – Forgive Durden
Bring Back The Bomb – Gwar
Let It Die – Foo Fighters

There are a few angry playlists on my iTunes.

  7. yay for angry rock! M’kay i’m thinking
    ‘break stuff’ by limp bizkit
    ‘bodies’ by drowning pool
‘all these things I hate’ by bullet for my valentine
    ‘Bastard’ by Dope
‘Down with the sickness’ by Disturbed
and I would like to most definitely second ‘my plague’ by Slipknot (Y)

  8. “Angry Inch” from Hedwig and the Angry Inch
“Business as Usual” by Blues Traveler
    “Judith” by A Perfect Circle

  9. Kiss with a Fist – Florence + the Machine

It always helps me make the transition from ‘angstily angry’ to ‘pleasantly peeved’ especially when followed by ‘Fuck You’ by Lily Allen.

  10. My go to angry music is generally anything off of Thursday’s Full Collapse or War All The Time.

If I just want to yell things, I go for Polar Bear Club, Brand New, or The Wonder Years.

    • YES to all of this (the number of times I’ve listened to the newest wonder years album is disturbing)

      my angry playlist:
      punch (just…any/all songs)
jawbreaker–i love you so much it’s killing us both, ashtray monument
fall out boy–evening out with your girlfriend
      off with their heads–Hospitals EP
      alkaline trio–jaked on green beers
dillinger four–superpowers enable me to blend in with machinery (specifically, when I’m angry at my job, which is a lot)

      • “Came Out Swinging” has pretty much been on repeat in my house for the last two months.

And YES to FoB’s Evening Out. Everyone forgets that album exists (and, I mean, I can’t blame them), but so many of the songs are so angry, and it makes me still feel like I can maybe have a chance at matching Patrick Stump vocally.

        Punch!

  11. don’t need you-bikini kill
    call the doctor-sleater kinney
    bad reputation-joan jett
    terrorist-heavens to betsy
walk in the park-crowns on 45
    slushie machine-semiautomatic

    i could go on…

  12. I know I don’t listen to cool kid music when I recognize none of the songs that you guys are talking about (these always give me new things to listen to though.)
    Mine would be….
    Psychosocial – slipknot
    Only – Nine Inch Nails
You Better Pray – Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

And that’s about it. Not the angriest of people.

  13. Warren Zevon – Ain’t That Pretty At All
The lovely Warren sounds practically apoplectic throughout. The results are a simultaneous release of righteous anger (it’s really _not_that pretty and what’s so wrong with saying that anyway?!), relief that someone else understands how the entire universe is so full of complete dickheads and an incipient good mood, cos he sounds so ridiculous – just as as you’d sound a bit self-important to outsiders if you indulged in that much spitting hatred xD Warren goes there so you don’t have to, and always with dignity and humanity. RIP Warren Zevon.

PS: I love reading all the suggestions on these threads.

  14. Anything by A Wilhelm Scream is good, but that could transition into just really energetic.

For the bitter kind of angry, I’d say go for Andrew Jackson Jihad or the Mountain Goats. (but be careful, because that could transition into bitter-sad-irritated Bright Eyes)

Honestly, I don’t find my mood in music, music just changes my mood. OR it’s on the other side of the spectrum and I don’t really have a mood and I’m just focusing on the music.

I change my mind, if you’re angry, go listen to music that makes you feel better.

    #overthinking

  15. Don’t tell anyone but when I’m super angry, I play Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory really loud. On repeat.

It makes me feel like my anger is validated/shared.

Just like it did when I was about fourteen.

  16. Ooh, I really really need this. Great playlist! I’ve been listening to all different kinds of angry music lately.

pretty much a majority of the songs by a perfect circle and tool

also, “circle the drain” by katy perry is a nice little break-up song

  18. This is such a good playlist, thank you for posting it! For varying levels of angry I enjoy:

Friends Don’t Let Friends Dial Drunk- Plain White T’s

    Everything- Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog
    Easy to Be Hard- Hair

Also, even though it’s just a theme song, “You’re Standing on My Neck” is a great angry song.

  19. I love that you put Lily Allen. This is just so much good wrapped into one. This is going on the Ipod.

  20. When I’m pissed and filled with lesbian raaaage, I listen to Otep and Kittie on repeat.

    Buried Alive-Otep
    Hooks and Splinters-Otep
    Blood Pigs-Otep
    Pussysugar-Kitte
    Brackish-Kittie
    Wolves-Kittie
    Repeat

  21. I love you for including Die Hölle Rache. It’s my favourite aria from my favourite opera LIKE EVER. In a very beautiful edition may I add. <3

My weapon of choice when enraged: Anything by the Dead fuckin' Kennedys and the albums Raw Power by the Stooges and You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.

  22. When I’m angry, these songs usually help:

Alice in Chains – Angry Chair
    Disturbed – Prayer
    Kittie – Charlotte
    Kittie – Brackish
    Kittie – Get Off
Actually, a lot of songs by Kittie
Korn – Falling Away from Me
Lil’ Kim – Get in Touch with Us
    Nine Inch Nails – Last
Rage Against the Machine – Bulls on Parade
    Rob Zombie – Superbeast
    Slipknot – Psychosocial
    Smashing Pumpkins – Zero
System of a Down – Chop Suey!
System of a Down – Toxicity
    Taproot – Calling
Tori Amos – Professional Widow (not the dance remix, the original)
Almost every song on Hole’s “Live Through This” album

  23. I so need this play list at the moment. I have so much rage in me right now. Could we get a Smash A Bunch of Fragile Items on the Pavement playlist? I feel there would be a lot of crossover though.

  24. My anger management playlist is the Stars CD “In Our Bedroom After the War.” I’m not like a crazy Stars fan, but that album is just all sorts of perfect. It really helps calm me down and the order is just right.

  25. I am somewhat bothered by the fact fact that some people’s angry music is my happy music (this is specifically in reference to Thursday because I love them so much and am internet illiterate and don’t know how to simply reply)
I recently got dumped by someone in a text message, and thus an angry playlist was born. It had many songs by a few bands, so I’ll just name the bands, because most of them make only angry music:

    Converge
    The Blood Brothers
Atreyu (specifically from The Curse and A Deathgrip on Yesterday)
My Chemical Romance (because sometimes it feels really good to just yell “I’m Not Ok”)
Thrice (again, from their older albums, ie The Artist in the Ambulance and earlier)
    Every Time I Die
Thursday (Jet Black New Year and At This Velocity are two good songs)
    AFI
    Alexisonfire
Brand New (The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me is a fantastic Album)
    The Distillers
    Misery Signals

…so I guess I like a lot of angry music and perhaps haven’t outgrown my angsty high school ways as much as I would have liked to five years later.
