NSFW Lesbosexy Sunday Is Checking You Out

Welcome to NSFW Sunday!

+ You can make a ton of BDSM toys using household materials. Start with your local hardware store.

+ Two out of five people leave relationships if the sex isn’t good enough, according to respondents in a study by datingadvice.com. Additionally, lesbians were 16% more likely to leave a relationship over sex than gay men (the study only looked at cisgendered monosexual individuals).

+ Nicola Griffith responded to criticisms that the sex in her books is too good a little while ago in a rant worth re-reading:

“In my experience, sex really is super-awesome and mind blowing. It really is astonishing, transporting, and ecstatic. It really is the closest thing on this earth that we’ll come to swimming in a tide of light and magic. If it’s not that way for you, maybe you’re doing it wrong.

I understand you might not agree, that this might not be your experience. But it is mine. The very first time I got completely naked with a woman and had sex it wasn’t miserable or difficult or tense. It was better than anything I could possibly have imagined. Better than anything I’ve ever read in a book. I write about the best sex possible and, frankly, it doesn’t come close to the tearing brilliance of the real thing.”

+ Has anyone ever actually done their taxes during sex? Inquiring minds want to know.

+ Bad sex in romance novels and erotica is basically a standard, and while some is good, a lot is truly bad:

“Perhaps you read romance because you want to read about beautiful people doing wonderful things to each other in gorgeous settings. You don’t want to read about excessive sweating, or flop sex, or queefing, you say. Quoting Edmund White completely out of context, you add, ‘I think literature should be a gift to the reader, and that gift is an idealization.’

Fine, say I, but perfection gets monotonous. There comes a time when the flawless pistoning of hips starts to resemble a factory. Failure adds spice and interest, as well as believability, and it makes the happily-ever-afters so much sweeter.”

+ If you started dating in grade 5, you may have had more behavioural problems, according to a new study that seems to have focused on straight people:

“A majority of students, 55%, were classed as on-time teens whose romantic activity gradually matured during adolescence. Early starters, who began a consistent pattern of dating and intimate relationships between 10 and 12, comprised 20% of the participants. So-called late bloomers, those who delayed dating until their late teens, accounted for 25%.

Early starters reported twice as many acts of abnormal or delinquent behavior as on-time teens and late bloomers. Behaviors included lying and cheating, picking fights, truancy, disobedience and running away.

Late-blooming students, once their interest in dating began, followed an accelerated path through the casual and group-dating stages before moving to exclusive relationships, with no apparent adverse effect.”

+ Some porn directors have been changing their opinions in condoms and other safe-sex measures:

“I’d been told many times that condoms in porn meant certain death to sales. Conventional wisdom suggested that nobody wants condoms in their sexual fantasy. Porn was supposed to be an escape, not a public service announcement or a reminder that sex is dangerous or risky.

This was prior to 2012, when the controversial Measure B made condoms mandatory in porn — a law recently upheld, though it is still being fought by adult film producers [3] who believe it’s catastrophic to our industry. For a long time I agreed with them.”

+ Antonia Crane wrote about the end of the Lusty Leopard, what it was like working there before worker organization, and leaving San Francisco:

“It’s 2013 and the Lusty Lady Theatre is about to lose its lease. The Market Street Cinema has shut down for indefinite renovation, and Tony and Mike, my two managers there, died. Adriane passed away recently too. Peep shows have long been obsolete due to the free and widespread availability of free porn. The Internet has cut out the middleman altogether with adult sites such as Backpage and Eros, where hiring a freelance, live nude woman can be done in a couple of quick clicks, without the club and its distracting inhabitants; but that has nothing to do with a lost lease. A lost lease means that rent has skyrocketed and a business can no longer afford to remain intact. Along with the lost lease, workers who have enjoyed employment are dismissed. Where have they gone, San Francisco? What have you done with your dismissed work force—your working class, your strippers? What happened to the affordable housing on 14th Street and the families we helped on Thanksgiving? What the fuck happened to the Lower Haight?”

  1. Easy and cheap BDSM toys are so awesome. I’ve gotten so much use out of my zipper. It’s just really fantastic for solo play when you only have so many hands/mouths.
