No Man's Land Episode Two: This Business of Wall Art

What even is art? What is a wall? What are you gonna do with all of those pictures of your smiling face? Anna and Shelly know exactly what you should do, and that's hang them on your wall! Wall art!

This latest episode of No Man's Land actually went up last week while I was getting ready for A-Camp -- maybe you've heard of it? -- so I'm super sorry for the delay. Better Nate than lever, I always say! Also I've wanted to do a gallery wall for so long you guys. You don't even know. These two hooligans make it look so easy!

You'll need some supplies, but it's easy stuff, like a hammer and some pictures, nails, the basics. No big deal. Word of warning though: there are no puppies in this episode, so just prepare yourself for that, emotionally.

Isn't their finished wall situation so cute? Do you have a gallery wall in your space? I'm realizing I might have an accidental gallery wall in my bedroom, actually. Tell me all about your walls. I'm very curious.

        the best part of that tumblr is trying to guess what will be called out before you scroll all the way down. i totally called the toilet decal, but that was a no-brainer.

    I just discovered those 3M hanging strip thingies. They make gallery hanging so much easier if you’re OCD and impatient because you can stick them up on the wall and move them around after you sit back and stare obsessively, rearrange, and rinse repeat five more times. And no holes in the wall, means no puttying when you want to move out with your deposit.

    Okay, I’m just going to say it – I don’t like it. But for no other reason except I’m one of those OCD people that needs to map everything out. The trick is to arrange all your frames on a giant picture of paper, trace the frames, and then hang the paper on the wall so you know exactly where to put the holes.

      you could make your map to scale on an overhead projector,
      like those ones from grade school.

      I still feel like the easiest thing to to is just trace all of the frames and cut them out. You can move the paper around to figure out the best layout. It really doesn’t take that long and it makes it look much more polished in the end.

    Nothing on my gallery wall is framed, and it is all held up with sticky tack.
    So it looks not-super-professional, and the pictures all fall off the wall exactly every six weeks.
    Nails just seem so aggressive though.

    Kayla and Stephanie, I wish you both could have helped us! We would have handed you mimosas and paper for templates!

    I am the most impatient person in the world…I probably would have spent the entire episode cursing and pulling my hair out if we had used templates…which is in fact the safest bet when you're putting holes in the wall.

    We love you guys! We want to have an Auto Straddle Arts and craft day at our house! When are you coming over?
