A friend of mine who lives away recently went to a show. She was worried about going alone, and almost didn’t buy a ticket. I said “It’s Metric! You’ll MAKE friends!”
Obvs she ended up having a blast and barely noticed she had come alone.

I love Metric and LOVE Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton, but never manage to catch a live show. After reading this, I know I have to try harder next time, esp since Metric usually plays great small venues when they are here. Also, this review just renewed my love of Aussie slang- packet of lollies (squee!) sounds so much better than bag of suckers… keep up the good work!

Hmm we don’t have Thanksgiving in Australia, but if you asked me whether ‘Metric live > roast turkey + pumpkin pie’ I would have to answer ‘Yes’. OK sorry, that probably doesn’t do anything to help ease your pain. But I’m sure the Metric wagon will roll around to your town again, so keep the faith!

Mm late night midweek gigs are tough. Plus I’ve heard that Sydney crowds can be more difficult in general, although I’ve yet to test this theory… And an ‘emotional robot’ hey…umm maybe Emily is a big fan of the Bicentennial Man?

Great review! I was at the Sydney show and it was as awesome as you’ve described. In my town Emily Haines did a great job of winning over a tough crowd – they played at 11pm mid-week, people were a little flat. Where I was standing, at least.

On stage she kept talking about how she was an ‘emotional robot’. It was rather strange. I can’t wait to see them again.

One of the major factors that makes Metric incredible live is just feeling Emily and the rest of the band’s energy; Emily Haines = a BEAST on-stage.

As a fan who’s seen them live everytime they came to Montreal since 2002-2003, there was something different about this tour’s show that I couldn’t quite put my fingers on. It took me a few days to realize that Metric has just grown and matured. This is what makes them the magnificent band that they are.
