@Riese correction – the ScarJo boob grope was at the 2006 Oscars, not the 2010 Oscars. Also, do people still call her ScarJo? Is that still a thing?

@riese So, I had a dream last night in which many strange things happened, including meeting you on a bus! I proceeded to gush about how I loved your writing and how funny you are and how much I admire you. Maybe a premonition of an A-Camp to come?

Hi @riese! I’m working my way thru two months of unread articles and somehow ended up on this article from 2010: http://www.autostraddle.com/googles-instant-search-wont-help-you-find-lesbians-anything-else-59268/, in which you wrote: “I’ve found substitute image searches and specific work-arounds, and have culled a vast resource of bookmarked…[Read more]

Sup. I new to the whole lady on lady scene. I just recently came out and have been dating guys for years. I have a huge crush on this girl I met on a bus. She’s REALLY friendly with me and somewhat flirty. We talk all the time. I feel like she may just be bored or lonely because she’s new in town. If I asked her if she was gay would that be a…[Read more]

@riese and I also saw coverage of this ad on other gay websites. Is it normal that companies go out of their way to alert the media to a new ad before it starts running? I’m just skeptical because there is a perception that when you run “gay ads” you ignore the larger straight market. Would [...]

I know I am, unfortunately, coming in late on this discussion, but I find an aspect of this thread more problematic than the ad in question and want to comment. wrt the ad suffice it to say that I agree with @riese that the ad is problematic because of the demographic of women being targeted and [...]

@riese Maybe. Maybe I *am* viewing this through the prism of my gay queermo ways, but I still think it’s obvious this lady needs to get over herself and take a chill pill. I think real moms (not me!) might empathize with the situation, but still think the lady is overreacting, thus Tide foiling her plans [...]

I hear valid points from both sides: Tide is playing the gender panic card, and Tide is thwarting the mom’s stereotyping by saving the tomboy’s clothes. Mostly I agree with @riese at we need to think about who they’re trying to sell to. It seems like the target audience for this is Reluctant Moms of Tomboys [...]

@riese, yes the commercial is for moms, but Tide thwarts the mom. Tide takes the side of the little girl. I mean, I think the whole commercial is not to be taken seriously as both the mother and the daughter are exaggerated stereotypes on opposite ends of the spectrum, but in the end, Tide helps the [...]

Autostraddle: A Place for Your Feelings About Autostraddle: 1 year, 10 months ago@riese : Feedback on the new “Like or Dislike” addition. This kind of bothers me but lots of other people seem to like them so I think it’s fine. I’m sure I will adjust and become used to it. There is ONE THING, though, that I don’t like. I don’t like that if a comment receives a certain number of “thumbs down” it is hidden. People…[Read more]

thanks for the feedback! we’re just sort of experimenting right now — earlier I changed it so that there’s no like/dislike words, and the buttons look different, and only logged-in users can vote.
I’m hoping without the prompt that people will be more cautious about x-ing something, also having that limited to logged-in users. I don’t want…[Read more]
I like it a lot better now! I didn’t like the other format because it just seemed so distracting. I like these buttons a lot better. Also, I was having issues before with seeing comments that had been “hidden” because even when I displayed them the font was so white I couldn’t read it. I agree that only users should be able to vote –and maybe…[Read more]
