I DIDN’T get that email and I feel like I’ve been left out–even though I know that if the Conservatives can track whether or not I’m queer they sure as hell can track my political history (which is decisively not […]

When Biden announced his support, I did not see THIS coming. I’m hoping that numbers won’t tip towards Romney (PLEASE GOD NO) because the homophobe/Republican base is rejuventated…especially when this race had a […]

It also energizes the GOP, especially those that weren’t particularly wild about Romney. They might go out and vote for the Romneybot when they wouldn’t have made the effort otherwise because they’d hate to see […]

In reply to: Michelle posted an update in the group Never had a girlfriend I’ve never had a girlfriend…hell, I don’t really know that many queer women IRL. Is this anyone else’s problem? ViewIdk, I’m pretty femme and nothing about me screams ”alternative lifestyle”. A ”YES I LIKE GIRLS” shirt may be appropriate…

In reply to: Michelle posted an update in the group Never had a girlfriend I’ve never had a girlfriend…hell, I don’t really know that many queer women IRL. Is this anyone else’s problem? ViewI know women who are about ten to fifteen years older than me through political groups. I go to a queer friendly campus but I only know gay men, no lesbians. I know it’s about making yourself visible but I’m not visible AT ALL.

I’m not exactly sure how to go about that other than wearing a shirt that says ”YES I LIKE GIRLS” or something to that manner…
Possibly visibility ties back into the description for this group – shy… anyone know ways to break this bubble??-

I’m kinda in the same boat, never had a girlfriend and can’t seem to find any queer women in my city! The few I do manage to find are always either just passing through or in very committed LTRs =\

In reply to: Kai posted an update in the group Straddlers on Coming Out Hey, so I guess I’m looking for advice, I’d love to be all casual and cool coming out to my classmates when it sort-of tangentially comes up in […] ViewOh man, I’ve been there. I went to a Catholic high school (I didn’t even THINK about coming out there) and now I’m at a historically Catholic college within a secular university where a lot of the people are still Catholic or were at least raised that way.
I just have to say that there are some people who are more accepting than you would…[Read more]

In reply to: Steph posted an update in the group Ottawa Straddlers Going to Ottawa in a month for a 3 month internship! I’ve never been before. Any suggestions of things to see and do? Would love to meet some new people while […] ViewI’ll be interning at the Senate from late June to the beginning of September, so I’m looking to meet people too. I have friends who live or have lived in Ottawa, and in addition to museums, galleries and history, there are apparently a ton of summer festivals (including Capital Pride).

In reply to: Michelle posted an update in the group Straddlers on Coming Out Okay, so I shouldn’t be this scared coming out on freaking Autostraddle but I am because…I am bisexual, and I’m sort of concerned I’m going to be on […] ViewI went to the drop-in centre at my school a couple of times. Even though no one knew how I identified (because no one can really ask), it was awkward because people seemed to know each other and I was out of place. I’m hoping to go to queer orientation week next year, which I was too afraid/discouraged by rain to attend this year.
I’ve gotten…[Read more]

How about meeting girls online for dates or for friendship only? Sometimes I meet lesbian couples for friendship and maybe they can introduce me to their single friends; plus I get to know more queer people. I belonged to several dating sites before I met my wife. My question exactly. I don’t keep margarine around the house and melted butter + apples + carbs is too good of a combination to mess with.

I have no idea. For some people, their queerness isn’t really a part of their political outlook and they can somehow justify their inequality. I’ve never understood how anyone who wasn’t a white heterosexual male […]
