Lady Gaga’s “Marry The Night” Video Has A Nervous Breakdown In The Bath With Cheerios

So, the music doesn’t really get going until about the eight-minute mark, with Gaga filling the first chunk of the epic 13:48 minute “Marry the Night” vid with spoken word dialogue and Girl, Interrupted-esque exposition. Even so, this video is packed with a ridiculous amount of scene changes — a little ballet (Black Swan homage?), a little psych ward, some nudity, cheerios and fashion from the Future, obvs.

She told E! that the video was inspired by the “worst day of my life” when she thought her dreams were slipping away from her when her first record label Island Def Jam dropped her.

“That’s probably the most honest moment in that video of everything I’ve ever done. My directorial decision was for them to just f*cking roll the cameras, because I couldn’t go in and out of the moment.”

  1. So…I enjoyed it until the last scene thing…then I felt like aliens were trying to steal my brain. O_o

  2. This is the first time in my life I’ve been jealous of cereal.

The nurse ass and bedazzler comments made me actually lol.

  3. Lady Gaga videos always make my life, even if I generally don’t understand them. These are things that make me happy, though:

Lady Gaga enchanting me with her sexy speaking voice? Check.
Lady Gaga displaying her sense of humor? Check.
Breathtaking dance choreography (if nothing else, you have to admit that shit wonderful-crazy)? Check.
Lady Gaga looking FINE in that short, blonde hair while cars burn behind her? Check.
    Excellent song? Check.

Unfortunately, the whole first eight minutes only confirmed my bizarre adoration for/infatuation with damaged young women. Sigh.

  4. Because her videos needed more talking and explosions. And speaking of trauma, that flaming car scene gave me Canuck riot flashbacks…. Vancouverites, amirite?

  5. I didn’t watch the video yet, but I think that the scene in the 2nd picture of this post is an homage to Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box” video? Or maybe the “grey curtains and black cross” thing is just actually common in Christian hospitals in the US, idk the similarity just jumped to my eyes. #my2cents

  6. The choreography was amazing, as usual. A lot of the pre-music was fucked up, but the prelude monologue was great. Her line “It’s not that I’be been dishonest; I just loathe reality” is now my favourite quotation.

  7. Is Gaga making becheerioing a thing?

Is becheerioing the wholegrain alternative to the meat dress?

Will Gaga have constructed a wardrobe covering the entire food pyramid by the end of her next album?

What I love about Gaga is that she really makes me think.

  8. This is one of her better vids… the exposition actually makes sense, the emotions felt real, and lord, the things she does on/ in/ to that bathtub!

A very nice F- you to Def Jam indeed.

Also, I can kind of relate to her feelings here because I have several painful rejection letters in my inbox right now. I guess, according to the gospel of Gaga, I’ll have to marry the night, not give up on my life, etc.

  9. I feel like Gaga’s cheerioing is her way of saying that she wants to get it way the fuck on with every lesbian’s #1 Cheerio.

    Santana ftw.

  10. Every time I see/hear something Lady G. does, I love her a little more. And… her ontop of that trans am? HOT

  11. I felt like she was channeling Amanda Palmer for a couple moments there. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

  12. So, I can usually appreciate some Gaga creativity as much as the next person, but really, I’m beginning to think someone should really say something to her.

  13. anybody think the car scene references warhol’s saturday disaster? i totally see it, especially her body positioning

  14. Sooo…apparently that’s Jenna Ushkowitz around the 5:00 mark. I can only recognize her hair, but can anyone verify this? Because that’s kinda fucking crazy.

    • Jenna Ushkowitz is actually at the end. She’s the one with the Chanel bag that helps Gaga into the limo at 13:57. She confirmed this on her twitter. :)

      • Ahh, okay. Well, that girl has the same hair at 5:00 so it’s probably her too. That’s awesome! I love Jenna :D

  15. Apparently one of the nurses is her mum?
The one she talks to when she’s in bed, I think.

I don’t really need to say anything other than I loved it and love her. I always do, mind.

  16. i couldn’t watch the entire thing straight. the song is pretty catchy but the entire 14 minute video?…NO.
