Kate Nash Performs ‘Once More With Feeling’ Live; The Whole ‘Verse Dies Of Epicness

Vanessa’s Team Pick:

Sometimes, you don’t know you’re craving something until it exists. You might not realize you need chocolate peanut butter to be available in tiny individual portable packages, but then you find a box of 10 for $1 at Duane Reade and suddenly it’s so clear: all you’ve ever wanted is chocolate peanut butter on-the-go. That’s how I feel about what I’m going to share with you right now.

I never knew I needed Kate Nash to cover the Buffy Musical Episode, “Once More With Feeling.” I had no idea seeing her dressed as Buffy, with her cute friends dressed as other characters on the show, rocking out to the Buffy theme song and performing very impressive covers of individual numbers from the episode was Everything I Ever Wanted And More. But now I know. Oh boy, do I know.

Let’s backtrack: To celebrate Halloween this year, Kate paired up with her friend Emmy The Great and some of her other musician friends, and they performed numbers from “Once More With Feeling” at Hackney Picture House in London. Apparently they plan to make this an annual event, which frankly is reason enough for me to pack my bags and move to the United Kingdom immediately. Luckily for us, the entire performance is now on the interwebs, so we can all see it and enjoy it over and over forever and ever. My personal favorite number is and always will be “I’ll Never Tell,” so that’s what I’m gonna share with you right now, but you can view all the videos over at Bleeding Cool.

NME reported that Nash described the show as “the best day of my life,” and quoted her telling an exceedingly adorable story about how this “long-standing dream” came to be a reality.

Me and Emmy were spending loads of time together over the summer having an emotional time and we used to just drink bottles of wine and watch Buffy and watch movies with Cher in and tweet Cher quite a lot. We used to say that our two dreams were for Cher to tweet us back and for us to cover all of the Buffy songs from Once More, With Feeling and do a Buffy show. And suddenly we’re doing it and doing rehearsals and now it’s like the biggest dream of my life coming true.

Honestly, aside from that being the cutest thing I’ve ever heard from a girl with really incredible bangs, it’s a relief to know I’m not the only one who gets emotional and drunk and binge-watches Buffy.

  1. This is officially the best thing ever. I can always do with more Buffy in my life.

  2. I did a production of this in college, and it was so much fun! If this is an actual annual occurrence, I’m buying my tickets to London for next Halloween ASAP. That is, if another natural disaster doesn’t trap me in NYC…

The real question is: Did they get the mustard out?????
