feminist zine about safe sex
Public Group active 5 months, 3 weeks agoRiese told me I should ask y’all about what to do. My state is really big on the whole abstinence only thing. th sex ed my school receives is horrid. They just show us pictures of STDs and then tell us to never have sex until we are married. They don’t teach us about condoms or birth control and definitely nothing about safe gay/queer sex. I’m graduating and as my final “fuck you” to the system, I want to make a zine educating my school/town about feminism and sex.
1) Name suggestions?
2) Things to cover? (Safe sex, slut shaming, masturbation, rape culture…)
3) Resources? Tips? Etc..?
Thank you thank you thank you lovely people

feminist zine about safe sex 1 year, 3 months agohi i just wanted to say that i’m in a similar situation and we’re doing this in print! surveys are definitely good if you can get them out to the right people. we did ours and even though i suspect the sample was rather skewed (most were voluntary click-throughs from our facebook friends, i think), we are still covering some topics that people…[Read more]

feminist zine about safe sex: 1 year, 11 months agoSpeaking of the survey my pro-choice group did, I highly recommend some kind of survey of the kids in your area to find out a) what specific things they are really clueless about and b) what areas they want you to focus on. While you want to cover as much as possible, it’s good to know what the particular problem areas are.

feminist zine about safe sex: 1 year, 11 months agoI’m trying to utilize tumblr to make this e-zine because it’s free. I’ve found a good theme that displays only one post at a time. It looks good but…
Dilemma: I want to do the whole cut/paste doodle thing and then scan my pages and upload them as picture to the tumblr. The problem is getting the right dimensions. I read that tumblr pics are…[Read more]-
That depends on the resolution of your image. Most images on the internet are 72 dpi, so 500×700 pixels is a little closer to 7×10 inches, actually. So I’d say check your resolution? If that’s not it, then maybe your tumblr layout auto-resizes images to fit. I’m not too sure about anything related to tumblr, sadly.

feminist zine about safe sex: 1 year, 11 months agoI was coming here to suggest Scarleteen and someone already did! Yay!
I’m the president of the pro-choice group at my college and we do yearly surveys of the campus, and it’s amazing how much students at a top 25 university do not know about stuff like STDs. So please put lots of info about STDs – how to get them, and how to prevent them.
It…[Read more]

Okay thank you! Seriously though, people should just always have condoms. And there’s a reason for flavored condoms. Yeah.
-
on the subject of scarleteen, the book S.E.X. is pretty good. my mom decided to buy it for me (now that i’m 16 cuz SURELY i haven’t learned about sex yet, but i digress) instead of having ‘the talk’. it wasn’t that bad of a decision. the book is really detailed and inclusive of not-straight, not-cis people. like including safe sex and coming…[Read more]

feminist zine about safe sex: 1 year, 11 months agoI love your idea so much!! I think you should not forget to have lots of beautiful pictures in your zine because people love to look at beautiful pictures.
Have a “greatest feminists of our time collage” or something. Also, make sure you cover both gay and strait safe sex. and definitely write about rape, but be really careful that your info…[Read more]

Oh wow this is great thank you! I’d love to include your story in the zine if you would allow me (you can edit it/have full control of what you want to be published). Also, your notes would be very much appreciated!
Since I’m a virgin/only 17, I’m really worried about making sure my info is correct. I already have a ton of credible sites…[Read more]-
Just tell me how many words you want from that story and I’ll edit accordingly. Also, be careful to alway cite your references properly (you can have a resource page at the end where you put all the websites’ ulrs and a short description)
And think about connecting people with local resources, like the planed parenthood, a phone help line,…[Read more]-
You’re right, an annotated bibliography is probably the best thing to include.
Since it’s going to be an e-zine (I may print a few copies off depending on the # of pages) I think i can include your entire post as it’s rather short/to the point/amazing. Also, how do you want me to credit you for your contribution (not just your blog post but…[Read more]-
Just credit the story to “Isabel” and the notes to Professor T. G. Williams.
That par of the notes pretty much only means that you are more likely to get raped by someone your dating, after a w-e date , because on week nights dates, you drink less and are less expected to have intercourse. Also, it hits that rapers (assailants) do not always…[Read more]

feminist zine about safe sex: 1 year, 11 months agoDoes anyone have name suggestions? I could use a famous song like Unknown Pleasures or Cherrybomb. Or I could do something straightforward and just call it SEX: Everything you want and need to know. Or something cute/quirky like The Smart Slut

feminist zine about safe sex: 1 year, 11 months agodefinitely talk about consent! being able to talk about sex and what you want = being able to talk about protection
-
talking about consent, you should probably check out the zine Learning Good Consent. you can find it, as well as other zines, here: http://www.phillyspissed.net/taxonomy/term/3

Lovely! Thank you!

Second that! Great zine.

Consent is sexy.
-
For reals. So sexy.
-
My city has this big homo parties at community halls (as an alternative to the gay bars) and they have colorful glittery posters on the walls all the time, and one of them says ”consent is sexy”. Best thing ever.

Indeed. spindrift, I hope our zine takes off in Singapore! I feel for it so much, it really is ”my final ’fuck you’ to the system”, now that I’m finally done with compulsory education.
