Went to Image Expo this weekend and it was awesome. Very cool, very low key. One of the highlights was getting a Y The Last Man trade signed by and getting to chat to Brian K. Vaughn. I fully admit the entire time I was thinking ”HOLY SHIT HE WROTE THE RUNAWAYS. AHHHHHH. DON’T FANGIRL OUT. BE COOL BE COOL BE COOL.”. Thankfully, I was.

Anyone attending the Image Expo in Oakland this weekend? 3 days celebrating creator owned comics. Should be fun.

Just finished reading Hexed (vol1) and Wet Moon (Vol 1). Wet Moon wasn’t my taste, but I can see how people love it. Hexed was the shit. Very Whedonesque, which is a very good thing, but also awesome on it’s own merits. Will be buying more.

Dudes! ADVENTURE TIME #1 is coming out next Wednesday! Are you excited? I’M EXCITED. I also edited the thing, so you can all point to me in the credits and say, ”I SORT OF KNOW HER ON THE INTERNET.”

    Anyway. DISCUSS.

    I love you all!

Sooooo… Batwoman #4. I think I’ve reread if over a dozen times and annoyed the shit out of my roommate talking about it.

So I’m broke and can’t afford the $200 a month in comics that I was spending in grad school. But I need a fix, so I’m going to let myself follow one X-book. What’s the best X-men book running right now?

I really liked X-Men Legacy before Rogue became uber Mary Sue.

But honestly I have jumped ship for DC’s lesbos so I’m probably not the best person to ask . :)

Koko Be Good by Jen Wang is AMAZING. Sometimes I use the word amazing loosely but no, seriously, this deserves an Eisner.

Just getting into comics, the only one I have read is Buffy season 8. Any recommendations on where to start?

Get these. They will make you a happy gay:

Gotham Central (series from 2003, now collected in four trade paperbacks. You will love Renee Montoya)

Batwoman: Elegy (required lesbian comic book reading. The trade paperback collects a series of issues from Detective Comics that feature the most awesomely lesbinoic superhero ever.)

      Batwoman…[Read more]

Also! Strangers in Paradise (by Terry Moore), Hopeless Savages (by Jen Van Meter), Blue Monday (by Chynna Clugston…get ready to have a crush on Clover)…also French Milk (by Lucy Knisley) and Blankets (Craig Thompson).

      WHOO INDIES!

Also support my company and read Hexed. It’s grand.

Sharks did a great job of covering the lesbo hero basics and Shannon did a great job covering a lot of the Indies (looks like I’ll be picking up Hexed!) but I’ll add a few.

The Scott Pilgrim books (Bryan Lee O’Malley) if you like indieness and movie games and slackers in Toronto, you’ll probably like this. Ramona has a Bi-curious stage…[Read more]

If you want to get into mainstream Marvel comics, I highly recommend Runaways, Young Avengers, and anything from the Marvel Adventures line–they’re great introductions to the larger universe, as well as very well-written. (Well, mostly. We won’t speak of Joss’s run or some of the tragic art and writing of Civil War). If you get lost as to…[Read more]

‘Strangers in Paradise’ is an excellent place to start for both gayness and delightful characters/complex storylines.
‘Transmetropolitan’ by Warren Ellis is good if you like batshit insane. Spider Jerusalem is a gonzo journalist in the future. Technology may change, but people and politics not so much.
‘The Sandman’ by Neil Gaiman is a…[Read more]

Craig Tompson’s ’Habibi’ is… I… I’m still processing it. It’s gorgeous and heartbreaking. I’m probably going to have to read it again because there’s so much going on in that book I know I missed some things.
