Glitter Tongue Is Queer Poetry About Your Love Feelings

Intern Grace's Team Pick:

Hey, it's the day after Valentine's Day, and Glitter Tongue is a collection of 30 love poems written by queer and trans* people. And it's so good, you guys! It's like the kind of poetry you wish you could write but your brain doesn't know how to arrange your feelings into those kinds of words, and then when you read the poems, they feel very homey because you've felt those feelings before, too, except maybe you didn't know it but maybe you did and you didn't know they were things that other people felt too. The poets involved have formed a community through poetry. I recommend you read them all because they work best together. Even the introduction page is beautiful:

"Here, glittertonguing, we all try, in concert, to say love and mean something queer and fantastic. And in that collective trying, perhaps we’ve built something larger than success or failure. Perhaps we’ve built something as messy and gorgeous and transformative as love."

How did you know that this is exactly what I needed on a Thursday morning when my body is punishing me for late night McDonalds?

from ‘the day after tomorrow is goodbye and you don’t know when’ my r. erica doyle:

the day after tomorrow is goodbye and you don’t know when
    1. her

the night is full of steam and her hand is on the small of your back.
when she laughs, her eyes are vast, vast as the ocean, where you sit,
perched on the lip of the world. you have often contemplated her,
here, on the edge of everything, held her nude in the sunset, laid her
on stone and turned your hand inside until she cried out for mercy,
held her entire face in your hands and surrendered the rest of your life.
now, around your neck, and you can breathe and can’t, and she is riding you
with all the fury of the next goodbye behind her,
ten thousand horses in the desert unfettered and pounding.

AMAZING. Thank you so much for this, Grace.

    This is excellent! Thanks Grace!

ps. on the subject of queer poetry, I JUST watched a video by a transgirl called ‘How To Tell a Trans Person They Are Beautiful’. It’s not super long but it is heartfelt and perhaps something that you guys may perhaps wish to throw into a roundup post and thus share with the wider world somehow. Check it out here:

    holy shit that’s good stuff.

“if we both have written maps to the stars
    where our spirit flies out
    and then written our return:

    rewrite my body with me

you have wings tattooed on your breastbone
where I have the word home in cherry brown

I can already feel where we will make each other’s bodies new

what story will we unfurl this time

    change me”
