Ellen DeGeneres Wins the Mark Twain Award, Is Basically the Best

If you haven’t heard, Ellen DeGeneres became the 15th comedian to be awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Upon learning of her win she said, “It’s such an honor to receive the Mark Twain Prize. To get the same award that has been given to people like Bill Cosby, Tina Fey and Will Ferrell, it really makes me wonder… why didn’t I get this sooner?” After airing Tuesday night, PBS made the show available online. OMG is it right below this paragraph? I think it is.

Jane Lynch, Jon Krasinski, Kristin Chenoweth, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Hayes, Steve Harvey and past winner Lily Tomlin all made it to the Kennedy Center on October 22nd to sing Ellen’s praises. Hayes said, “I like to think that Ellen made Will & Grace possible, and Will & Grace made it possible for Modern Family. (DeGeneres’) fearlessness was her contribution and it continues to be.” And of course Portia de Rossi was there being gay, fabulous and supportive.

  1. I didn’t think Portia and Ellen could get any better, but Portia’s new haircut? There go my pants.

  2. this was amazing. except for the part where she makes out with larry.

i have never seen a wronger thing in my life *_*

    • yeah at this point, I just kept staring at the tube hoping that each kiss was the last. When actually they just kept getting worse and worse… and my face kept getting more and more twisted.

Very unhappy. Worst scene ever. Only slight worse than the train-wreck of a Jason Mraz tribute… I think that could’ve been a lot better. I was just waiting for that to end.

But OMGz sean hayes singing and flailing his arms was the best ever!

  3. This was so lovely. And also it further cemented for me the incredible crush I’ve had on Laura Dern since childhood, oh god.
