Today on Autostraddle: Carlytron's Newest Week in Teevee! Among other shows, Carly this week has viewed Gossip Girl, Heroes, Dollhouse, Better off Ted, United States of Tara, and The Real Housewives of NYC. Discuss!
I don't know if you got the memo yesterday but the health/happiness of our children and grandchildren is at risk! Luckily the good people over at NOM (the National Organization for Marriage -- not to be confused with "om nom nom," the onomatopoeia employed by tweeters preparing for a tasty meal) are taking action! They won't stand for this! "The gay marriage movement has once again used the courts to push an untruth on unwilling Iowans!" and that's not all! "The Vermont Legislature did everything in its power to avoid allowing Vermonters to vote directly on the future of marriage!"
Over at Dabble Post, witness some of NOM's allegedly Jesus-approved PSAs. My number one question for NOM is how they cracked the code and figured out how to guarantee that children not stolen/raised by The Gays will grow up with a supportive mother AND a supportive father. They must be really on top of their shit over there.
BREAKING NEWS! The NOM audition tapes have been leaked. Check out the world's dumbest auditions Now let us witness their glory and destruction:
Howevs, in brighter news -- The Christian Science Monitor reports "shrugs across the Patchwork Nation" as the gay marriage terrain changes.
+ ... meanwhile, back home in NYC, gays don't need equal rights to be economically profitable. New York City plans to soothe its $4 billion budget deficit with the Rainbow Pilgrimage Campaign, designed to woo gay & lesbian tourists! After you're done with your Tinkerbell-helmed Autowin Tour of Planet Harlem, you should really check out VERMONT. You can get married there, it's like anarchy! Have some Ben & Jerry's, they love the gays! (@nytimes)
+ In other confusing news, The Advocate looks at the economy's impact on the gay porn industry -- formerly believed to be recession-proof, porn now may be the next industry to drop to its knees."
+ And ... following Vermont & Iowa's historic legislature and in anticipation of the intentionally gay-friendly White House Easter Egg Roll -- will Obama miss his opportunity to stand up for us?
Also! The 3rd Annual Out Magazine Power 50 includes Autostraddle Faves like Rosie O'Donnell, Adam Moss, Jodie Foster, Wanda Sykes, Neil Patrick Harris, Christine Quinn, Milk-scripe Dustin Lance Black, Gus Van Sant, D-Wisconsin Tammy Baldwin AND! Rachel Maddow in 4th and Ellen DeGeneres in 2nd!
Cat Cora and wife Jennifer have a new baby girl ... Lindsay Lohan is indeed just like us! She's broken up with the woman she loves and is now drinking vodka, reports being in "absolute hell"! Surprise! ... and Laurel Holloman accepts a Bravo A-List Award for Best Sex Scene [I think -- the awards will air April 15th]:
Sarah Haskins' Target Women: "Take a big bite out of this super douche-burger ad campaign where women are nags and men are jackasses." (@current tv)
from Carly: Want to stand out at your local Pride festivities this summer? You will definitely want to get a pair of these New Balance CM996 in the new Rainbow Colorway. This is a special edition collaboration with Japanese sneaker boutique atmos, and they'll run you $140. Totally worth it... if you can read Japanese (jk, they have a store in Harlem! Don't know if they'll have these sneakers there though).
from Crystal: Stef’s new girlfriend, Amanda Palmer, wrote an interesting and valid email to Roadrunner Records stating her case for why the label should drop her from their roster. This follows a song she wrote called ‘Please Drop Me’ which is viewable on YouTube.
from Alex: Since we love time travel, check out the street of the future! (is a livable street) [@Good Magazine] If this is what our streets could eventually look like, the world might be a better place. Also, as a "visual person" or whatever I am, this is a cool interactive graphic.
