Brittani’s Video Party: Sara Bareilles Takes the F to 7th So She Can Scissr

This is Brittani’s Video Party, where I bring some of the “best” videos from all over my internet together so we can clap, cry or deconstruct. Have you ever gotten to a video and it already has 33 million views and you wonder where the heck have you been? Well I’m here to help you so that you see it when it only has 32 million views. Aim low, world. Aim low.

Scissr follows Aviva, Corey, Emily, and Niamh, four twenty-something lesbians navigating life and love in Brooklyn. Like the modern day wonders they are, the women meet through an iPhone app and realize they have much more in common than they originally thought.

Ingrid Jungermann’s critically acclaimed webseries,F To 7th finds Ingrid dealing with her descent into pre-middle age lesbianism in its second season. Jungermann believes “the best comedy comes from exposing your darkest secrets and inviting an audience to laugh along with you” so I’d probably watch the Season 2 premiere if I were you.

Sara Bareilles is showing some love for the queers in her new video for “I Choose You” by helping Aly and Andrea, a couple from Denver, get engaged. There’s no kiss from the newly engaged couple around the time I would expect a kiss but maybe that’s their vibe or maybe it got cut or maybe people still don’t wanna show two queers kissing.

The attention Donald Sterling and the NBA have been receiving recently made this a good time for someone to dig a little deeper into racism in professional sports and that’s exactly what the fictional No Foul Coalition does in this sketch.

  1. Season 2 of F to 7th?? How did the universe know exactly how to cheer me up today…

  2. I was like “oh I’m just gonna watch this Sara Bareilles video even though I’m skeptical” and then I was like “oh I’m just crying because they’re so in love and it’s so beautiful” but also I was like “oh why is everybody white and why didn’t they show the queers kiss?”

  3. I get depressed because it seems like every cute, cool, queer girl in the media is skinny and as much as I want that to be me it just never will be.

  4. If Sara Barreilles sang at my engagement I would spoil the whole thing by passing out as soon as I saw her. Because I’d be so chill about it all, I mean.

  5. About Scissr:
I am a lesbian of color living in Brooklyn and this show, features more white people than I have every seen in Brooklyn that speak fluent English. *sigh* It is very unfortunate to showcase a borough that is so rich with cultural and racial diversity as predominantly *white american born natives or other racially ambiguous women who can clearly pass for white* Super excited to have a new lesbian show because we definitely need more. Disappointed to find that when they said BROOKLYN I (mistakenly) assumed YES a show featuring women of color lesbians!!! WOMP WOMP I’ll continue holding my breath….
Is this Brooklyn New York or Brooklyn Ohio? I digress.
