A lot of cities had their Prides weeks ago, but that isn’t to say that rainbowsย stopped soaring. All around the world people areย putting on their beads, glitter and smiles and taking to theย streets. Admittedly some of the facepaint you’re seeing may be a bit moreย nationalistic in spirit, but that doesn’t mean we’ll beย out shinedย by the Olympics! LGBT groups are dressing up (or dressing waaaay down)ย to fight for their right to celebrate this weekend.
Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem had its 10thย annual Pride parade on Thursday that honored the victimsย of a 2009 shooting at a local gay centre. Between 3500ย and 5000 queers and allies came out to honor the victims andย celebrate the LGBT community.
Montreal, Canada
Montreal’s Prideย Parade isn’t until August 19th, but there’s no need for pity.ย Montreal actually has two Pride festivals and this weekend isย Divers/Citรฉ.ย The Old Port transforms as DJs take the the stage and communityย leaders show off Montreal’s true colours. I’m gonna head downย to the docks tonight!
Liverpool, UK
Between the Olympics and Pride, I imagine that the UK will be running out of facepaint and alcohol by Monday.ย Liverpool Prideย will beย Nautical but Nice this year as they host the UK’s second largest Prideย march this Saturday. This march marks a milestone for this thirdย annual festival asย twoย Premier League football clubsย come out for the first time ever!
ย
Vancouver, Canada
Vancouver Prideย willย always beย my prideย in my heart and the festivities kicked offย without me! There will be a number of outstanding individuals part inย Sunday’s Parade.ย Jennaย Talackova, the Miss Universe Canada contestant that helped changeย pageant rules for everyone, will be one of theย Grandย Marshalls. She’ll be joined byย theย Canuck’s Manny Malhotra. He’s serving as an ambassador forย You Can Play,ย an organization that seeks to break down barriers and stigmasย for LGBTย athletes.
Hanoi, Vietnam
Hats off to Vietnamย as they pull off their first parade on Sunday! Earlier this weekย it was reported thatย theย Ministry of Justice started to propose revisions to the Marriageย Law. This inaugural 200 person march could be the first step toย make Vietnam the first Asian country to recognize same-sex couples andย their rights!
Port Stanley, Canada
Since I can’t write a happy post without someone raining on my parade,ย Port Stanley officials are doing just that. The Port Stanley Prideย Festival is trying to have their inaugural parade this yearย starting August 10th. The municipal officials are “uncomfortable” withย the situation and are demandingย last minute changes that take up $12,000 of a $35,000 budget. Iย want to imagine that the world isn’t a horrible place that hates theย pretty unicorns, so I’ll be naรฏve and believe that festival organizersย may have missed some paperwork in their original application. Eitherย way, good luck Port Stanley!
Pride 2012 isn’t over yet, soย grab your beads and take to the street wherever you are! Amsterdam,ย Ottawa,ย Windsor,ย Eugene,ย San Jose,ย Hampton Roads,ย Madison,ย Chico,ย Charlotte,ย Calgary,ย Duluthย andย Austinย all have a bit more time to plan their costumes. Make sure to message your fellow Autostraddlers and meet up if you need a friend. March in the parade, wave a flag or just be your fabulous self in solidarity. And oh, if any of yourย fabulous selves know how to remove glitter from hair/skin/underwear it would be much appreciated.
i just really love all the colors in this post
Pride is this month in Chico too. It’s a tiny town, but I love it anyway.
This week is pride week in Amsterdam. The canal parade is saturday august 4th.
Austin Pride isn’t til September!
Dallas too. SO MUCH WAITING
really? wow, we’re tardy to the party. on the bright side, maybe it won’t be 115 degrees…
Oy! I am glad to hear there are waaaay more prides than I found. I could only do so much research on my lunch hour andI I didn’t skip anyone intentionally. Keep em coming ladies! Maybe you can find a friend to go with!
Ottawa pride too!!! Canada’s Capitol!
Manchester too. The very same Manchester of Riese-came-to-the-UK-just-to-visit-Manchester-Pride-last-year-and-awesomely-told-everyone-about-it fame.
I have a September pride. It’s really hot in Texas, guys.
CAN’T WAIT D:
Orange County, CA Pride is August 11th in Santa Ana. and it’s free. Can’t beat that.
Stockholm Pride is happening this weekend as well! Wish I could be there, maybe next year :( Lots of other Swedish LGBTQs will be boozing it up and covering themselves in slightly toxic glittery bodypaint for the parade today tho!
Trade in your vuvuzelas – so that’s what we’re calling it these days.
Copenhagen Pride is on the 18th! Can’t wait
Vancouver Pride is in August because, of course, that’s the only month of the year when there’s a slim chance they won’t get rained on.
i love rain
Don’t get me wrong, rain totally has its place. But it tends not to mix well with parades, hence the well-known idiom…
I disagree, I think rain can enhance a parade, you just have to know how to dress for it. Last year I wore a bikini, rainboots and rainbow suspenders to pride! so much fun.
I also recommend white shirts
Also Prague! My first pride ever! Can’t wait!
New Orleans has Decadence and Dykadence coming up this month!
Informal request for montyal pridestraddle meatupy?
Anyone going to San Jose pride? I have one friend who wants to go but she’s probably working during the day. :(
Columbia, Missouri’s Pride is on the 19th for reasons!
Which is actually a good thing, because if our Pride was in June, more than half of our population would be absent (you know, ’cause it’s a college town and everyone flees if class isn’t in session.)
Hallelujah for prideful sorority femmes, bookish dykes, and nearly everyone majoring in gender and women’s studies!
Charlotte’s Pride is Aug 25/26th!
Manchester Pride in the UK is the 25th of August, I volunteered for Liverpool’s Nautical but Nice Pride and seriously you guys, we could have used a boat it rained that much.
We still gay raved though. It was totes emoshe.
